Philosophy

Matt’s philosophy has been developed and refined through applied experiences across 4 continents in the past decade.

Simple, meaningful and with purpose.

Matt is able to simplify complex nutrition science to positively impact the behaviors, habits and practices of the athletes that he supports. Utilizing innovative storytelling methods to deliver information that impacts and sticks. Matt utilizes an evidence-based, but data-informed approach so that any and all recommendations are specific to the individual he is working with. Beneath it all, Matt is deeply passionate about nutrition and supporting others. His messages are delivered with the individual’s best interest at heart, with passion, intent and purpose.

This philosophy has allowed Matt to overcome language barriers and other obstacles to enhance the health, body composition, performance, recovery and physiological adaptations of those that he works with.

Matt’s interest in sports nutrition developed during his rehabilitation from his second ACL rupture. During that rehabilitation he worked with physiotherapists, strength and conditioning coaches and even psychologists, although no one discussed what to eat. Matt found himself gaining weight and losing his identity. He started reading about nutrition online and became fascinated by the impact that it can have on his rehabilitation, mental health and wellbeing, and body composition.

This led to an undergraduate degree in Sports Science at Leeds Metropolitan University, followed by a Masters Degree in Nutrition Science from University of Chester. Matt then took on multiple internships with the Welsh Rugby Union, Liverpool and Wrexham Football Club.

The past decade has seen Matt’s career flourish in the applied world. Starting with Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City FC, and then on to Brazil with CR Flamengo. Matt then took on a role with the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, overseeing the nutrition and physical readiness of the Special Forces Operators. This was followed by work with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation through qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and then a move to USA as Director of Sports Nutrition with University of Oregon. In 2019 Matt returned to the UK for the birth of his son and took on consultancy roles with Brentford FC and Chelsea FC Women. That was followed by a very successful four year stay at West Ham United Football Club. In 2023 Matt took on his current roles with UAE Football Association and Boston Celtics.

Outside of elite sport Matt has consulted with leading organisations such as 20th Century FOX, Joe & The Juice, Puori and Soccer Supplement.

Matt is registered with the British Dietetic Association, through the Sport & Exercise Nutrition Register, and holds registrations with ISAK and UK Anti Doping.
